Today I just have to write about what I am feeling. I am sad! On Sunday, after an emotionally uplifting Sacrament meeting, where all of the YM and YW sang, a member of the Stake Presidency stood and dropped a bombshell.....They will be taking parts of three wards, including ours, and making a new ward. No one saw it coming. We all thought we were "safe". We are still reeling from the last one.
We were told to meet at the new Stake Center at 4:30. During our other Sunday meetings we were all in a daze. No one could concentrate. We cried. The youth, especially the young women, were completely beside themselves. We all knew what was probably coming. Bridle Point, probably the strongest part of our ward, would be cut off. Sure enough, not only was Bridle Point made a part of the new ward, but we lost many other great families as well; families that have been in our ward forever. Some were made part of the new ward. Others were made part of an existing ward. The young women lost pretty much all of their leaders, including the president. We lost our great RS President. We lost so many friends! The kids all lost friends. We are all still numb with shock. Seth and Hannah even lost their best friend, Cheyanne.
We will have to recreate our ward. I don't know what my calling will be, as I was the "Assistant" Webelos leader - and of course the leader is gone. We will need to recreate new YW Presidencies and a new RS presidency. Jim got his new calling - he is now the ward clerk. But it will be nothing compared to the new ward who will be faced with making a new ward from scratch.
We will not even be in the same building so we will not even meet in the halls. This is so hard for all of us, especially the youth. We had heard many times that "our ward would not be affected". We were wrong. I think we were hit the hardest.
I try and be thankful that we have growth. I think about when we visited Heidi and Gary's ward in Sugarhouse, where they fasted and prayed for growth in the ward. The wards were shrinking and the buildings becoming empty as more and more non-members populate the Salt Lake areas. I guess that is a lesson to us. We should be thankful for growth. But it is too hard when you are so sad. I would rather murmur right now.

I agree--it is not fair! I'm still shocked. I feel so bad for our youth! When we lived in AZ our ward split every 6 months because of the growth--it was hard--but we were used to it and expected it. I think that is what was so hard about this split was it all happened so fast.
Very sad, and it seems so unfair - we just can not believe it. We are so sad to leave. The 5th ward is a great ward. We will miss it so much, my kids still insist they are coming to the 5th ward no matter what - wish somehow we could.
I am also with. you except it is a little easier for us since our kids are younger and we are going back to the ward we just left. But I will miss seeing you every Sunday. Keep in touch. Our Blog is www.jebandleslie.com
WHAT!!?? You didn't tell me! This happened before I left for HAwaii - call me and tell me what what the scoop is! Jim will be an AWESOME ward clerk, it is SO up his alley. He'll just have to have a couple of "bishopric" 50 miler hikes a year to get his fix.
