SECURITY IN A SMALL TOWN!

What do you do when you see a cop parked on the side of the road??? SLOW DOWN! of course. We took some fun pictures of our friendly police officer while on our trip. Apparently this is a new trend in small towns to get people to slow down without much effort...... I love it!

COUSIN PICTURES

Well, it has been a few years since we had the energy to get Cousin pictures. Poor Mia and Luke are not even in the last ones and Cayden was just a little baby. We decided to have confidence in our own photography skills and attempt them ourselves. We got maybe two good ones? As always, there is a cute crier and Luke did not let us down! Poor Heidi actually had to hold him and hide in some of the pictures. In reviewing the pics, it appears that Seth and Weston, our first grade boys, had the highest percentage of goofy shots and for that Amy and I apologize...... All in all it was a fun evening and we got a few fun shots! Hopefully Heidi and Gary can show the pictures to Luke and Mia while in China so Luke won't forget his cousins!

ANOTHER GREAT DEPRESSION?

Is anyone else getting as freaked out as I am about the gloom and doom of the economy? This morning I had a random thought as I was cleaning the kitchen. A year from now, will I be throwing away this leftover hot dog bun or saving it to make Thanksgiving stuffing? Another year from that....will I be recycling this newspaper or sleeping on it? Who should I vote for to ensure that we still have our jobs and our home? Will it really make a difference or is the writing on the wall? Will we still have Sister Lunch (gasp!) or will it be Sister Picnic? Do I have enough food storage to get through a crisis? If Val Southwick's home is only being listed for $898,000 then what does that make my home worth now? If the above picture were really our family, would the wheelbarrow hold Seth?

It is phone book season again. They just don't hold the same excitement that they did for Steve Martin in the Jerk. We no longer get excited! We get annoyed. Really....who ever uses them? It is such a waste of resources! When you need to get a number you either Google on your phone or computer, right? And since we have two lines coming in, we get two! There is nothing to do but take it straight to the recycle bin. For a couple of years I kept one out of guilt. No more. It is ridiculous. I am curious if anyone ever even uses these anymore. I set up a poll on the side of my blog. I think we should be given a choice whether we get one or not, not come home tripping over them, only to get one by their competitor two days later.

Hannah said the funniest thing the other day in the car..... Her best friend is named Cheyanne. They have been best friends for several years and play well together but have their little tiffs, etc. like normal little friends. The other day after playing with Cheyanne Hannah said "Mom, I think Cheyanne got trained since the last time I played with her."

"What do you mean" I asked. Well, she let me choose whatever I wanted to do and she was really nice to me the whole time."

"Oh.... well that is good!" I said. I then had another thought. "Are you trained yet?" I asked her. "No". she said. "But maybe Cheyanne can help train me."

It used to be Seth that said all the funny things. Now it is Hannah! A couple of weeks ago we were working on our food storage. We were going through buckets and taking inventory, etc. Hannah came in and said: "Mom and Dad, what are you doing anyway?"

"We are working on our food storage" I said. She then looked trustingly at Jim and said, "So when will we be going into hibernation?". We tried to keep a straight face but it was hard!

So if the Rogers go missing this winter, check the basement. We're fine.

FLASHBACK FRIDAY

I LOVE IT! I am going to blatantly copy my friend Wendy's idea of "Flashback Friday"! (are you still my friend Wendy?) I am going to try to stick to seasonal pictures that we might enjoy - but I am not guaranteeing that something random might catch my eye!

I AM STILL MAD!!!!

Ten days ago my little first grader Hannah fell while running on the school track. She skidded down an asphalt track on her face, knocking out her front tooth (baby tooth) and messing up her nose pretty good. It was not my week to carpool and I was not home when she got home. Zach called me and told me that Hannah was hurt and crying. I rushed home and there she was with a swollen mouth, nose, and was all scraped up and bloody with her front tooth gone. I was immediately incensed. Why wasn't I called? I checked my cell phone, home phone caller id and lastly my e-mail. Sure enough, there was an e-mail which in summary said that Hannah fell during recess while running the required laps and scraped her nose and "her loose tooth fell out" The teacher further stated that she was crying the rest of the day but felt that she was "more scared than anything." What??? What??? No call home. No office visit? These things are sticky because it is only hte beginning of the year and I need to maintain somewhat of a relationship with this teacher....my e-mail "gently" explained the real extent of her injuries (i.e. tooth was not loose, face swollen, etc.) and told her that I felt like the injury meritied a phone call to home because it was traumatic, a facial injury, tooth lost, first grader..... I then told her that something needed to be done about that track because Seth got hurt during the first week of school in the same place on the track. I told her that I was sending a copy of the e-mail to the principal "so that he could address the issue of the track". (sly mama that I am). I then asked the principal in the e-mail if he felt like it was handled right, etc. he immediatley replied and asked that Hannah and I be in his office first thing in the morning. He agreed that it was not handled properly and wanted to use it as a training example. When I got back to the classroom the teacher rushed up to me and said "I didn't know Hannah wanted to call home". " I would have let her call home but she didn't tell me." (interpretation - "i did nothing wrong here"). When I got home there was another e-mail which really made me mad: And I quote: We were on our way to art. I would have let her call, but I did not know. Maybe she was too upset to let us know that she wanted to call home. I am so sorry! I hope she is doing better today. Good Hell?? is this woman dense?

We had a great time last Monday for Family Night. We went up the canyons and climbed on rocks and took lots of pictures! The kids got bored of the pictures after a while.....We showed them where the Church archives are located and went to Temple Quarry. Fun night.

Our cat Abby is a good sport! Jim and I can't figure out what to be for Halloween but it wasn't hard to figure out what the Princess would be. Can't believe we are pet people now. She actually started purring while wearing the thing....
