Funny Dandelion

Okay, so I hear you aren't supposed to use your kids' real names on blogs. I am really not sure why but I will ATTEMPT to go along with this....merely for the amusement of giving them names. So, picture my dandelion headed girl for this story....

I know, I know, there are several things I told people I was going to blog about, eg. Prom and Pilot for a Day but that is just hard right now. I have to download pictures onto the blog. And its too late for that. And I don't know where I put the camera.

So back to my story. Hannah (I mean Dandelion) was sick this past week and I got to spend a lot of one on one time with her. She is such a funny kid! But she doesn't know she is funny....she is actually a really serious kid that says such funny things without meaning to.....Here are a few from this week to record for posterity....

Upon finding her in bed with THREE pillows under her head:

Me: "Honey you are going to get a stiff neck sleeping like that...."

Hannah: "If I don't sleep with three pillows then when I wake up my nose talks".

(a creative way to put what I guess she is describing as a stuffy nose)

On the way to Arctic Circle to get her a sprite for her tummy.....going through the round-about.....

Hannah: "Who yelled?"

Me: "What do you mean?"

Hannah: "WHO yelled?"

Me: "I'm sorry....I don't know what you mean".

Hannah: "That triangle yellow sign - it said "Yelled"

Further down the road....upon passing the Belleview Subdivision.....

Hannah: What kind of people live in "Belly-View" anyway?

Not a day goes by that I don't thank the Lord for the blessing of my twins. They are a constant source of joy in our lives!

Oh. P.S. I didn't do very well using the fake name, did I? I am too tired to go up and change it.

DID YOU KNOW.....?

My kids usually have "cold" lunch. They go to a charter school where the lunches are $2.50 per day. Now, that is definitely an improvement from $4.00 a day which it has been for the past few years; but it is still expensive when you have 3 kids in the school. So as a result my kids only each get to pick 4 hot lunches a month. So....they get a little tired of sandwiches (and it is only 1st grade!!!).

All year it has been the same, i.e., if they are having turkey sandwiches, Hannah wants cheese, Seth does not; Hannah wants mustard; Seth does not. The other day as I drove them home, here was the dialog:

Hannah (in dramatic tears): "Mom!! Stop putting cheese on my sandwiches! It is slimy and feels like I am eating snails!"

Seth (whiny): "Mom, how come you never put cheese on my sandwiches?"

Me: (ever so sweetly) "Well, you have never wanted cheese and Hannah has always wanted cheese so I didn't know...."

Seth: (in know-it-all voice) "Well, Mom don't you know your taste buds change every seven years?"

Me: (in wonder and confusion) "No.....where did you learn that?"

Seth and Hannah: (indignantly) "In science!"

Me: (Hmmmmm....I could use this to my advantage!)

Next morning:

Me: (Sweetly conniving) Seth, how about you try mustard on your sandwich today since you are seven now and your taste buds have changed?

Seth: (heavy sigh): "Yea, I guess I better, but try not to put too much on since I am still getting used to my new taste buds."

Well, who knew? Learn something new every day!

A CLEAN HOUSE COMMENTARY

Okay, sometimes I just like to blog about what is on my mind. Today it is on the magic of a clean house.

Last summer Ryan (baby brother that is 20 years younger and just got married last year) made a stupid comment that had the Council of the Sisters and all Honorary Members in an uproar. The e-mails and comments went on for weeks. Basically, silly little Ryan eluded to the fact that women should not have housekeepers as that was part of "their job". So you can imagine the uproar! Even his own cute little wife was disgusted with him!

Now, by way of excuse for Ryan--he is still a chauvinist in training. Now Ry Ry, don't take that personally; picture it like a Jedi-in-training, where the result could go either way. You may learn or you may go to the dark side. My other baby brother, who is 10 years my junior, has been married for a few years and I think has successfully completed his training. He has passed the test and has made it to the "right side". I am sure his wife will agree but I am sure she will also agree that it took some time and training. No worry, the Council of the Sisters is always willing to help (like it or not little bros).

Well, I personally would LOVE LOVE LOVE to have housekeepers weekly(or even monthly) When I get my bills paid that is my plan!!! I do indulge and have them once or twice a year, spring and fall, and last week I had them come. (Yes, I admit, I did have BUNKO that day at my house).

Well ladies, picture this. You simply leave a key under your mat, go to work all day, and come home to a SPARKLING CLEAN HOUSE! Well worth the cost. They do everything from baseboards to shutters, bed making, sheet changing, etc. etc. It did cost me a little more than usual this time---I can only imagine their disgust as they went downstairs and said "Esa cerco adabado su el sotano!!!!" (that pig finished her basement!).

Jim swears he heard a chorus of angels singing as he came through the front door that day. I think he may be right.

It's not that I want to be an unorganized pig. I was born that way. I am not lazy. I am constantly working on this house. But I inherited the "When in Wonder and in Doubt, Run in Circles Scream and Shout" gene that everyone has in my family to some degree. (except Valerie). I dream of always having a clean house and being organized. It is my #1 goal at all times. But it never happens.

Now I have to say that many of the women in my neighborhood use the housekeepers on a regular basis. And of course they are the women whose homes are always perfect, kids are always clean and perfect, they are always patient and loving with their children, work with their children on homework, read to them nightly, never have cavities, have perfect hair, etc. etc Oh wait, never mind, I just described everyone in my neighborhood, even the ones who clean their own houses. (I am just being funny here. I love every one of my neighbors - they are the most incredible women I have ever met!) Do I ever feel like they are any less for not cleaning their houses? Of course not! I give them a silent "You Go Girl!!" as I see the little purple van at their homes. I think every woman should have the luxury of a housekeeper. Why should we have to do THAT when we do all the rest?? I can't even believe the difference in makes in the home atmosphere.

When they come we try and stay on top of it....We are still in Home Heaven now as we enjoy the fruits of the labors. Laborers. Fruits. Whatever.

Cute sis-in-law recently lived in China for 3 months and had the luxury of a housekeeper who did meals, cleaning, etc. 3 days a week!!! (for only $50 a month). Wow. I know she is probably in withdrawal right now. As am I!

Now, I dare you to post your opinions on housekeepers.

Would my husband support me having a housekeeper? You bet!!
